A young family with twins used to have live-in help from Grandma, but she couldn't take living in the unrenovated basement. Can designer Hilary pull off a transformation, or will agent David find a new space for the whole family?

When a house no longer feels like home, homeowners are left with a big financial and emotional question: renovate or sell it? Love It or List It helps fed-up homeowners decide. In each hour-long episode Realtor David Visentin and designer Hilary Farr compete for the homeowners' final decision to stay or go. David's insider perspective on the real estate market helps target listings to prospective buyers, but Hilary is determined to show homeowners that, within their budget, she can transform their worn-out house into a castle they can love. If the owners decide to list it, Hilary's hard work adds to the home's resale value. It's a tough decision either way. Which choice would you make?

65K for that list is like they're literally asking Hillary to perform dark magic. It's not her fault that she wasn't able to give them an additional bathroom or screened-in porch. Those things cost money, and the owners are not willing to spend on it. Value cannot be achieved without money. And tbh, Hillary did super amazing with what she can, but they would probably be better off in the new house where they can continue to grow and expand.

Never thought I would say this, but they should have listed it!

Thanks for listening and giving a more "complete" mini episode!

kitchen cabinets should have been painted, it would have made the kitchen bright with more character

$65K for that huge wish list? SMH.
  • It seems like the main objective is to get his mom to move back in which seems more for their benefit than hers. He's definitely giving big momma's boy vibes. I get wanting to take care of his mom but not EVERYTHING needed to be about her. You gotta focus on the family you created. And you would've had enough money to redo the kitchen and screen in the porch if the basement wasn't done. Raise your kids on your own. Or ask grandma to pitch in some money if she really wants to come back. Or just do it down the line. I think they just wanted their nanny back.

Hillary is aging like fine wine. The best she's ever looked.

You guys have come a long way with your home! Your kitchen and dining area look great, and your living room is much nicer now. Wishing you lots of happy times in your updated house! 🏡

Are they nuts, 65k ?? Yeah, they are since they quoted it, on TV..

I would like her - just once - to laugh when those pathetic budgets are given. He's trying to sabotage the project by keeping the funding low.

Yeah their wish list is off the charts insane and they do not want to spend much money for it. They are just dreamers and not practical people. There’s a reason they chose this couple because they know it’s going to be full of dramatic scenes from the dreamers without the actual real money available to do the renovations. I mean a real human that cares would just tell them the truth about their dreams vs actual real world truths. It’s insane and ridiculous to ask that much but not willing to put the monetary investment they want.

In the future, mom may come and resume her job unpaid. They thought they could stash their mom in their basement and be a caretaker for their kids as well in the first place... If mom hadn't put her foot down and left...

Sorry I can't feel sorry for him. Seems like he just enjoys complaining. That house before the remodel is nicer than my house. 😂

Both houses have stairs! Not a fit for those of us over 65, even if she can handle stairs today, someday soon she won't be able to, trust me.
