So, X-Men ‘97 is almost done with its first season, and I genuinely can’t stop thinking about it. The action is insane, I’m obsessed with the animation style, it basically fixed Cyclops’ reputation overnight. The way it adapts lesser known stories from the comics and leans into the personal drama that made them so special. And the way that this revival of a 30 year old Saturday morning cartoon is able to be a mature and nuanced look into bigotry and hate and tell some of the best X-Men stories of all time.

And so it’s gotten me thinking, what other shows should get the same treatment? What animated shows were cancelled before their time? That could maybe benefit from more modern animation and a more mature approach to storytelling? The superhero genre alone is ripe with series that were cancelled after just a couple of seasons because of studio meddling or rights issues, a lot of which ended on cliffhangers that haven’t been able to be resolved decades later.

Animated reboots can be 50/50, usually they just lead to disappointment. But with X-Men ‘97, it’s gotten me excited about the prospect of some of these shows being able to make a return.

And so these are some animated series that I think deserve the X-Men ‘97 Treatment. I'm not just shamelessly copying the Invincible video I promise.

With great power, there must also come great responsibility:

Green lantern the animated series was so good and only got cancelled because of the damage the green lantern movie did to the ip smh

They’ve already teased it so a Spider-Man revival NEEDS to happen. The fuck happened to Mary Jane? Did Peter decide to move on? Is May still around?
  • @realsanmer
Maybe not a return to Omniverse, but I feel like the Prime version of Ben 10 still has enough material for a new show.

Earths Mightiest Heroes needs to come back. It was done so dirty by Disney and the plans released sounded great

If recent MCU has taught us anything, it’s never do it just for the sake of doing it. You need a voice behind it, as well as tons of passion and intelligence.

It would be hysterical to give the darker, more adult reboot to a show like superhero squad, because they would come out with the perfect mix of dark humor and drama
  • @KindaNice
personally, I’d love to see a modern Static Shock

The absence of “iron man armored aventures” in this video is criminal

I would actually love some sort of continuation of Spider-Man Unlimited. i always loved the art style, it ended on a big cliffhanger and the showrunners had a detailed plan for season 2.

You did not just edge me with that spectacular spider-man part
  • I’d love for Gargoyles, Beware The Batman, and Batman Beyond to get that kind of treatment. And yeah I agree that Gendy Tartakovski should make a new Star Wars show that’s set in the high republic, rebellion, and/or resistance eras. I’m also up for him doing a Visions short or in a new era like during the Hundred Years’ War/Republic Dark Age.

A 2nd season for GL where Hal and Sinestro have a Anakin & Obi-Wan type of falling out would go insanely hard
  • @Victor_oh_yeah

You're a real one for saying Genndy and his team should get a shot at another Star wars project. I'm working on a review for the series and while it's not even close to a sharable state yet the experience of breaking it down and trying to understand what it's doing has been incredibly informative and made me love the series even more.
