Building a mental model of traffic at an uncontrolled field is an essential skill that is not really standardized in flight training. This video shows the situational awareness needed to successfully navigate the ambiguity! Awesome job.

Busy spot. Great awareness. Thanks. KAPF

Great video. I like how you listed who was on frequency. Helped with the mental picture. Well done.

I was just happy to hear the Skylane guy change his plan and work with everyone else. Been in many crazy uncontrolled patterns where people have intentions for different runways. Usually it works out like this, but every so often you get that one pilot who just refuses to change their plan to work in with everyone else. Nice work by everyone on this day at Astoria!

Great video Ted! I like the fact that you tried to reach the Skylane pilot. I heard somewhere that having “conversations” on CTAF vs. just position reports can be very very helpful. The Skylane may have just switched over and didn’t know that runway 8 was “in use”. Seems he changed his plan after he heard what was going on.

KAST traffic can get wild. My first solo xc kept me very engaged with local traffic.
