Pokémon Doesn't Need a New Type

Pokémon types are very important to Pokémon, but not every new Pokémon type idea is the best to actually have in game. This video was made before the Pokémon Indigo Disk DLC came out and Spectacular was a thing so just ignore that, it doesn't exist.

Honestly, cosmic type is LITERALLY just the psychic type. Alot of the E.T. based pokemon are already psychic and thst makes enough sense as is
  • @lasercraft32
Normal type being weak to fighting makes sense. If a kung fu master comes over they sure as heck are gonna beat a normal dude. Normal type being immune to ghost also makes sense... Because normal people don't believe in ghosts XD
  • @redmewtwo0984
They should just rebalance the existing type chart rather then add a new

Truth be told, what we really need is some revamps to the current type-chart. Y'know, stuff like Bug being super-effective against Fairy, Ice resisting Electric, etc.
  • Another reason to why a light type wouldn’t work is because in Japan the dark type is the evil type (don’t fact check me on that), so what would the light type be called in Japan, the good type, the heaven type, the happy type, what would it end up being called there?

When people say "this type can work, because existing Pokemon already fit it, I think that's the wrong take. You dont need to think about how the existing Pokemon get this type but how it could work in the future. How many designs are limited because you can't get a proper type for it? Light-based pokemon are already well-represented due to the types you mentioned. Why would a space Pokemon have its own type instead of an existing one that still works (clefable with fairy, staryu theoretically with water, deoxys with psychic, Mineor with rock). Just because you are from a different planet than our protagonist, doesn't mean you have to get a different type (see the Ultra Beasts). How far can you get with Sound type without just cloning the same set of speakers or different singing animal? I find normal to be quite fine for Pokemon inspired by this. So to anyone wanting to design a new type: 1. Check what existing types need balancing (like dragon pre-gen 6) 2. What could logically balance this (Fairy tale protagonists for example) 3. Does it have enough IRL stuff to be based upon (fairy tales, folklore & stuff) 4. Is it not already covered by the existing types? (Earth type, seriously, we already got 2 types for that)

And the problem with adding a sound type is that if they add a sound type some duel type like toxtricity and bronzong which one of there type it loses for a sound type and we have a sound mechanic and they should expand in that
  • @reddin-on8mm
Finally someone saying that sound type shouldn't exist, I always thought that Sound type is too redundant because Sound in of itself is normal, there's sound every

Light is also covered by electric in a more literal sense (like the move flash and the Pokémon ampharos). Never understood why people think it’s so needed as a type when it’s already covered. Same with normal that’s represented by normal types essentially and is more like a compliment to types as it acts like a feature

BRO WAS THAT SHINJI OVER PIKACHU IN THE HOSPITAL BED LMAO
  • @Zoso55
The thing I think the type chart really needs is a revamp, just like kinda combining some of the things that don’t need to be duplicate types (looking at you two, rock and ground) we nee them to combine into earth, it’d just make more sense
  • @kevinbrisbin7563
I always thought the psychic type was the "light" type. You know enlightenment and all that. So, they made the dark type to balance it out.
  • @Zacian2.0
Pokemon TooManyTypes is a fun romhack that melts your brain on the first playthrough if you dont look up the type chart (which is hard enuf to read with the normal types, but dang crazy big wowza)
  • @smiller6986
What would nuclear even do” shows Pokémon uranium later in the video
  • I’ll just say this, sound moves faster underwater, so sound would be strong against water
  • @t-eehee7057
0:07 You're NOT going to talk about Happy PEAK like that‼‼‼
  • @garitinos
6:57 There is a Fakemon ROM hack of Firered that explores the cosmic type, and it's quite balanced there, being unaffected by fire, and weak to electric types. It also has a digital type, which is weak to electric types and bug types, to name only two

MandJTV made a great video about merging the existing Rock and Ground types into a single Earth type, and I think that's a great idea. There have been so few new Ground-types added in recent gens that the type feels like an afterthought compared to Rock anyways. Aside from that, I think the Sound type could work well as a brand new type, but it's the only one that I think would make sense and have enough Pokemon/moves to fit it.
