My husband and I were in Playa del Carmen in Nov 2022. Weāve been to the first two places in this videoāEl Fogon and that stand alone taco stand. Both places were really good and I remember the al pastor at El Fogon to be really delicious! Thank you for highlighting some of the best taco places in Playa del Carmen.

That salsa verde you loved at the end is what we call "fake guacamole". Very popular in many mexican taquerias all over the country. It's essentially "deep fried" jalapeƱos and garlic, all blended with neutral oil (instead of water). Bit of lime juice, cilantro, etc. are optional. Way cheaper than making fresh guac and it's similarly creamy and almost as tasty.

They give you two tortillas per taco when they use corn tortillas that were not nixtamalized (processed with some Ca compound) which makes them less elastic, more prone to breaking. Nixtamalized tortillas come 1 per taco.
