Really love this program, short and concise in 6 Minutes with various interesting topics
  • Good topic. I agree with that there are many ways of saying sorry to someone. Being sorry is about kindness. I've known many things from here. I think responsible people often say sorry to someone. They know their responsibilities and work on them. If u feel sorry to me i woild hug. Just telling "sorry" shows up that you are not a real sorry. That makes sence in my opinion. Thanks BBC♡

It might be a faux pas for a public figure if they say something sarcastic in public. You might have to pay a fine, and you will never be able to draw a line under it. So, if you are a public figure, remember to say it with a caveat because then you don't have to take full responsibility

Thanks BBC My summary while listening There are many ways of saying sorry in English and they all have slightly different meanings. Today's program discusses ways of saying sorry since they can be confusing to use sometimes. According to Louise Mullany, a professor of sociolinguistics, she was really interested in how people apologize, particularly public figures so she did a lot of research in the workplace, looking at the media and politicians in particular. One thing that really interested her at the time was that many writers stated that we entered the age of an apology. For example, many politicians are called upon to apologize and if they don't, it will be a big faux pas. Also, Professor Mullany analyzed the apology. Boris Johnson claimed that he didn't know that he was breaking the rules. His apology contained a caveat. Eventually, many people didn't trust him anymore and he couldn't draw a line under the Partygate scandal.
